Torterra ex
Deck Primer
Kinda still a work in progress BUT!
I think changes I would like to make are more super rods, also probably will sub a nest ball for a buddy buddy poffin since most basics in this deck can be pulled out this way. I also might replace a Morty's conviction or something for a heavy ball. I also do not personally run any card that can be used to draw more cards, I find that Morty's conviction, Iono help out well enough for when i just don't have anything I can play. The super rod makes it to where I can bring back any pokemon I may have discarded with Morty or from being knocked.
I use the Toedscool that I do because of it's spore attack, this is very helpful for the times that he is what I pull out in my starting hand or I need to stall a little to finish my set up or need a card I'm willing to sacrifice when I am in a bad situation.
I make sure that when I have a Torterra ex in play that I have two Grotle's on my bench, and any time I pull an nergy card, I put one on a Grotle that way it is ready to become a Torterra when I need it. I use Professor Turo's research in order to heal and then will immediately bring out a Grotle with an energy card attached and use the torterra ex I picked up to evolve it, and put the turtwig back on my bench.
As you can see, I have a pretty large variety of basic pokemon, this is so it suits my needs aginst a variety of decks. Toedscruel is great for impeding on decks like Chien-Pao and Gholdengo. Kricketune makes Torterra ex's have 380 HP, and it also adds a little more protection to everyone else on the bench as well. I will put a Cottonee on my bench when some other pokemon are in my prize cards, I know I am going to need to heal soon, or I suspect I will certainly need Whimsicott to heal later. I use Venusaur's Loopy Lasso ability to get myself out of sticky situations, to deal with certain stall decks easier, and sometimes just for fun LOL! Either way the pokemon coming in will be poisoned, and if I'm really lucky they will stay asleep for their turn. I also have boss's orders as a backup for a failed coin toss/for the times I don't have access to my Venusaur.
I prefer Maximum Belt over other Ace Spec cards, it helps successfully one shot knock pokemon I wouldn't have been able to with only a full bench, and sometimes knock pokemon even without a full bench (Like Charizard ex or other dark type decks).
I use 3 Artazon because they are very valuable at helping get your setup ready, 1 Jacq since you only really need two Grotle's out to get going and it's nice to have for if I am struggling to get any evolution Pokemon in play. Clavell for early turns for a speedy bench set up. Rare candy for my Bulbasaur or if I need a Torterra ASAP. TM: Evolution for the first turn so I can instantly get Grotle's ideally or other support pokemon set up.
I run an energy search that way I can pull it with Arven if I have to, the main issue I have with this deck is that prior to putting an energy search in, I could go multiple turns with no energy which was very stressful.
If you heal with Whimsicott, make sure you're doing it when you have an energy card in your hand or you have a switch with readied Grotle's on your bench so you can continue attacking after healing.
I find with my deck it is common for me to have a slow start and then start wiping house after my opponent takes a few prize cards. Also, use your own discretion when you make various choice's, if you're not in a great starting point and only have one pokemon on your bench, you shouldn't rush out a Torterra since you wouldn't do much damage, if you're at a disadvantage you'd be letting your opponent take 2 prize cards for no reason.
Sorry if this is confusing, it is hard for me to fully describe how everything works together and it would be a lot easier to show. I hope this can help my fellow Torterra lovers whether you just take a few ideas or use the entire deck <3
