Hitmonbroskys Combo By JeoshuaObaldi
Deck Primer
The strategy of this deck is simply based on starting the Hitmon- combo, while trying to set up your evolutions (which will have a noticeable impact in the late game) in the meantime. What you want to see from your first turns is Hitmonchan plus an energy and a way to hit and run. You want to switch out to preferably a doll, to Tyrogue (since he’s a free retreater) or worst-case to a sacrificial pawn based on prizes and immediate availability. You can also put Hitmonlee in the active spot if he has a chance to survive and be able to use the special combo the next turn. You can decide whether to remain active with Hitmonchan, of course, so if you are threatened by a possible Guzma or Boss’s Orders (who can interrupt the Hitmoncombo), avoid benching the next piece and never expose it to an attack. Also, if it's not relevant or really impactful for the game, you should never interrupt the combo to promote Garchomp or Flygon, which is why this list doesn’t play cards like Buzzwole or any other alternate attackers.
The use of the Hitmonlee is important. You have to know what to target. For example, versus colorless usually you would go for Pidgeotto, as it would not go down to Hitmontop with Wide Lens (since it would count resistance even on the bench). For Hitmontop you don't need to say much; 60 to everything is always good and with Wide Lens vs lighting, colorless and dark it will hit for 120 on most (some dark is weak to grass and some colorless has resistance).
The combo is the forerunner: it eliminates weak supports and makes favorable maths on big pokemons. As the combo develops you must have been able to set Vibrava and keep it protected thanks to its ability, Machoke (if it is required by the matchup), and the Garchomp / Lucario combination that give the solidity and consistency in developing the strategy and allow you to find the missing piece or the piece to prepare for next turn. It also helps that Garchomp’s attack Quick Dive is a synergistic attack after having done the first combo round. A DCE attachment or raihan is enough to secure KOs after the completion of the combo. With Garchomp you can also use Wide Lens if it is really necessary in the appropriate matches, but you always prefer to keep it for Hitmontop.
Many teammates for the Hitmontrio in the past have been: sudowoodo, kabutops, medicham, but something has always been missing... then I discovered Flygon. He completes the deck and totally takes it to another level. The strength of his attack (invulnerability) lies in the fact that in order to better develop our strategy we will need our stadiums. These are often annoying for the opponent, such as the ease of the brooklet in helping us set up, the increased damage from the dojo or the negation of abilities from basic Pokemon (specially Bench Barrier). We also have Lusamine to recover them because they can all be good in the late game.
