Gengar VMAX: The Dark Type Pokémon We Need? We are gonna talk about a card that will be released in our future English Set, Gengar VMAX. Before I share my point of view about Gengar VMAX

Hi, it’s another pokemoncard.io article!

We are gonna talk about a card that will be released in our future English Set, Gengar VMAX.

Before I share my point of view about Gengar VMAX, let’s see the card first!

Gengar V - 210HP - Single Strike

DD - Dark Slumber 40

Your opponent's Active Pokémon is now Asleep.

DDD - Pain Burst 190

Put 3 damage counters on this Pokémon.

Weakness = Fighting x2 || Resistance = None || Retreat = 2 Energies

Gengar VMAX - 320HP - Single Strike

DD - Panic Fear 60x

This attack does 60 damage for each of your opponent's Pokémon V and Pokémon-GX in play.

DDD - G-Max Swallow Whole 250

During your next turn, this Pokémon can’t attack.

Weakness = Fighting x2 || Resistance = None || Retreat = 3 Energies

From here, we can see why Gengar VMAX is one of the favorite Dark Type Pokémon in Japan’s current meta. It’s first attack ‘Panic Fear’, with only 2 Dark Energies can deal up to 360 damage (6 Pokémon in play) or up to 540 damage when facing Eternatus VMAX. This damage alone can be boost by using Single Strike Energy which gives Gengar VMAX a boost of 20 damage for each Single Strike Energy on it.

It seems to be a very good card when Eternatus VMAX right now is facing difficulties with ‘Path to the Peak’ deck and Rapid Strike Urshifu is around the corner. Gengar VMAX also has a weakness to Fighting which is considered bad right now, when Urshifu deck is always around.

But out of all decks that are considered meta right now, Dragapult VMAX suddenly is making a comeback. With Dragapult VMAX around, Dark Type is becoming more viable because it’s weakness is Dark. Let’s take the example of Single Strike Urshifu/Umbreon VMAX. The combination of those two Single Strike Pokémon can be considered good, but the attack cost of both Pokémon is too much to make an OHKO attack in a fast pace game and the Single Strike Urshifu is weak to Psychic. That’s where Gengar VMAX comes in to save the day!

If you guys follow the meta on the Japanese side, Gengar VMAX is paired with Umbreon VMAX or even Duraludon VMAX. The sync between those two cards is more or less the same with Single Strike Urshifu VMAX. But with Gengar VMAX as a substitute, the damage output will be more consistent because the energy requirement is easier to meet. As a sub for Single Strike Urshifu, in my opinion, it is safe to bring a 3-3 line or 2-2 line considering it is a VMAX.

The main downside here is bricking. I myself have played the Urshifu/Umbreon deck, and the hard part is when you are bricking with no draw power in hand. The deck itself is considered massive on the Pokémon side when you will be bringing more than 15 Pokémon almost every time (don’t forget Houndoom!). That’s where Capture Energy comes in. But still, the possibility of bricking is high.

Other than that, I think it is safe to say it can be one of the alternatives for you guys who want to play Dark Type Pokémon. What do you guys think? Comment down below to share your thoughts!
